The Garden Jobs to do  to Prepare for Spring and Summer

Getting outside in the garden and enjoying those warmer and longer days is something that we can now start to enjoy once again – as the clocks go forward and spring is really in full swing, it is time to turn our attention to the garden to make sure that it is all ready for the summer.

There are often lots of jobs that you can do in the garden at this time of the year, here are some of the things that you can do to get your garden ready for the summer…

Get Everything Out After the Winter – Before winter arrives all the things that you use in the garden have likely not been touched since the start of autumn, so now is the time to get them out and get them ready for another summer. Check your garden furniture has survived the winter and give it a good clean if it needs it. Other equipment that has been stored away over the winter can also come back out, and now is a good time to check it for any signs of damage. For example, check that your lawnmower is working – you can make some repairs yourself, and can order replacement parts like these Mountfield parts online.

Sort out your Shed and Greenhouse – Now is a good time to clear any clutter from your shed and your greenhouse to get them ready for the activities of the summer. Give the greenhouse a good clean and go around the glass to make sure that it is clean too. Get everything sorted out to prepare for all the new plants that you will be growing in there. The shed could also do with clearing out, and perhaps a lick of paint now the weather is better.

Start Planning and Planting – Now is the time to start planning what you are going to plant in the garden, and a good time to start off your seedlings. Because there is still a risk of temperatures getting low at night and frosts coming from time to time, start off seeds in the greenhouse or indoors to protect them from the chillier weather, and wait until they are stronger and the frost risk is lower to plant them out.
