Installing Laminate Flooring
The UK is home to many laminate flooring options. They are a cheaper alternative to solid hardwood, but still provide the same practicality and ease of installation.
Most laminate floors have a click-in installation system. The planks can be clicked together to speed up the installation. These floors can be fitted by anyone, even if you are not a DIY expert. For 12mm Laminate Wood Flooring, visit Irwin Tiles.
- What tools will you need?
You’ll need the correct equipment to get the best results. You will need the following:
- Handsaw
- Measurement tape
- Underlay
- Pencil
Hand Saws are used to cut laminate planks into the required size. The measuring tape will allow you to determine how much flooring is needed, as well as how much of the planks need to be removed. Underlay is also essential to ensure a faster installation and to increase the longevity and stability of the 12mm Laminate Wood Flooring.
- Measure the Room
Use your tape measurer to measure the length and width of the space. Always measure the largest and longest walls of the room. Multiply the length of the room by its width to get the square metre measurement.
- Plan your Layout
Consider the dimensions of the room, the entrances and the transitions from other flooring types when determining the layout.
- Acclimatise Laminate Flooring Planks
Acclimatisation is required before installing the flooring. Although laminate does not react the same to changes in temperature and moisture, it’s still important to acclimatise before using.
- Prepare the Subfloor
You’ll want the site ready for installation while the floor is acclimatising. The subfloor should be clean, dry, and level. It is important to check the subfloor with a leveller and sand down any areas that need it.
