A simple kind of colour blocking is accent walls, but you can do so much more. Advance a degree by highlighting a corner or two around some interesting architecture or painting. You can use colours to accentuate the architectural features inside your home.

Grab an armful of painter’s tape and a friend, and tap your walls before you start painting, if you want geometric, modern lines. You can also use the tape to mark out stripes and other geometric shapes. If you want something a little less precise you can always use your own judgement to create a gentler definition to your lines.

Do you want to choose more than one colour, but you’re not sure which colour to choose? In the same colour family, consider choosing three or four: one highlight, one lowlight, and one neutral. Select one paint strip and choose a colour from both ends and the middle if you want to remain traditional. Instant scheme of ombre paint! At a colour wheel, take a look and pick two or three that are right next to each other for a bolder look.
