Burghley House is another historic gem built by William Cecil who was the Lord High Treasurer to Queen Elizabeth I. Set in very impressive grounds and with an impressive collection of fine art, a visit here would make for a very regal day out indeed.

If you like your history a little older then a visit to Flag Fen Archaeology Park is in order. Here you can view an ancient wooden monument preserved in the wetland. This monument was a place of worship and ritual for the inhabitants of this area 3300 years ago. Many swords and personal items were also recovered here, thought to be offerings used in the rituals. There is the chance to see an uncovered section of the causeway and see a reconstructed Bronze Age village.

Peterborough Museum has some fantastic objects and boasts 200,000 items of great national and international importance.Conveniently situated in the city centre, only a few minutes from transport links and a shopping centre so you can get your cultural and retail fix all in one go.

Nene Park is only 3 miles from the centre of Peterborough and offers a beautiful green escape to enjoy walking, cycling, fishing or just to explore the woodland. Visit Nene Outdoors which a new water sports and outdoor activity centre for a more adrenaline fuelled day trip. Boat trips also embark from Nene Park offering a leisurely cruise around the lakes.

When darkness falls, Peterborough certainly doesn’t get sleepy. There are two theatres to choose from offering drama, ballet and music concerts and a wealth of diverse eateries, bars and clubs to party the night away.
